Sanju Samson replaces Ishan Kishan in Team D squad for Duleep Trophy 2024; gets benched by Shreyas Iyer

Team India wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson was added to the India D squad for the first round of the Duleep Trophy 2024-25 season.

Sanju Samson replaced Ishan Kishan, who was sidelined with a groin injury, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Wednesday night.

Ishan Kishan was ruled out of the first round of the Duleep Trophy due to a groin injury.

The young batter sustained the injury while playing for Jharkhand during the All-India Buchi Babu Tournament. He scored 114 runs in his first match and 41 runs in his second before Jharkhand's elimination.

Sanju Samson Named Ishan Kishan's Replacement In India D Squad

Earlier, Sanju Samson was not included in any of the four teams for the Duleep Trophy.

The BCCI confirmed Samson's inclusion in Team D on Wednesday, September 4. The domestic season began with the Duleep Trophy 2024 on Thursday, with matches scheduled in Bengaluru and Anantapur.

“Wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan has been ruled out of the first round of the Duleep Trophy due to a groin injury sustained during the ongoing All-India Buchi Babu Tournament,” BCCI said in a statement on Wednesday.

India D updated squad: Shreyas lyer (C), Atharva Taide, Yash Dubey, Devdutt Padikkal, Ricky Bhui, Saransh Jain, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Aditya Thakare, Harshit Rana, Tushar Deshpande, Akash Sengupta, KS Bharat (WK), Saurabh Kumar, Sanju Samson (WK).

Suryakumar Yadav, Prasidh Krishna Ruled Out Of First Round

The BCCI confirmed that Prasidh Krishna will miss the first round of the event. Krishna is in rehab following surgery on his left quadriceps tendon.

Suryakumar Yadav will also be unavailable for the first round due to a right thumb sprain sustained while fielding in the Buchi Babu Tournament.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India said that they are still evaluating Yadav's injury.

The BCCI said that they will conduct a further assessment next week to decide his availability for the second round. All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been cleared to play and will be available for selection.

"Batter Suryakumar Yadav will also be unavailable for the first round of the Duleep Trophy after suffering a sprain to his right thumb while fielding in the All-India Buchi Babu Tournament," the statement said further.

"The BCCI Medical Team is continuing to assess his injury, and a further evaluation next week will determine his availability for the second round."

"Fast bowler Prasidh Krishna is nearing completion of his rehab following surgery for his left quadriceps tendon and will miss the first-round game of the Duleep Trophy."

Two matches are underway in the tournament. India A is playing against India B at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The match between India C and India D match is currently taking place in Anantapur.
