Sanju Samson Takes A Sly Dig At Selectors After Being Left Out Of India's T20I Squad For New Zealand Series

Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson took to Twitter to post a series of pictures that have been interpreted as shots being fired at the national selectors. Samson was left out of India’s squad for the T20I series against New Zealand.

The panel of selectors announced a 16-man squad for the 3-match T20I series against the Kiwis, which begins on November 17, Tuesday. Rishabh Pant and Ishan Kishan were chosen as the two wicket-keepers, leaving Samson out of the squad.

While the reasoning behind Samson’s axing hasn’t been made known, it is believed that the selectors were concerned about the Kerala batsman’s fitness. In response, Samson tweeted pictures of him making acrobatic saves on the field.

Samson was in great form during the IPL 2021 season, especially in the UAE leg of the tournament. He was finally able to put up consistent performances, something that has been his issue over the years despite carrying plenty of talent.

In the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), the 26-year-old has scored 175 runs in five innings for Kerala at an average of 87.50, including a couple of fifties to his name. He will be leading the side in their pre-quarterfinal match against Himachal Pradesh on Monday.

If he can keep up his good form and perform over a period of time, there is no doubt that the management will be obliged to bring him back into the side as he is one of the most talented players going around the Indian domestic circuit.
