"They are all jealous of you" - Rahul Dravid's words according to Samson Viswanath
While speaking on Sports Today in an interview, Samson Viswanath revealed an incident that involved Rahul Dravid's role in reviving Sanju Samson's career. Viswanath claimed that Dravid had to interfere in the matter to get Sanju out of the big hole created by the KCA.
"I will tell you one incident about Rahul Dravid. When KCA had tried to disregard Sanju and destroy his career, Dravid ji had interfered in the matter. Wherever Sanju (Samson) is at today, he owes it to Rahul Dravid. I have not forgotten anyone who has given us warmth and generosity," Viswanath said.
Samson Viswanath remembered about a phone call from Rahul Dravid in which the legendary India cricketer asked Sanju Samson not to worry about other things and to concentrate on preparing himself for the NCA (National Cricket Academy).
"After keeping down the phone, he told me 'it was Rahul sir'. He said 'Sanju, I understand all that is happening with you. They are all jealous of you. Tu chinta mat kar (Don't worry). Don't get your morale down," Viswanath recalled.
"I have taken care of it. You keep training and get ready for NCA'. He operated at a level higher than the KCA and took Sanju under his wings," he added.
How did the incident between Sanju Samson and KCA start?
The whole incident began when Sanju Samson was not picked in Kerala's squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The tournament was important considering it could have paved the way for Samson to get into India's squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
The Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) claimed that Samson didn't attend the required training camp ahead of the Vijay Hazare Trophy which was the main reason for his exclusion. The KCA was severely targeted by Samson Viswanath who accused them of destroying his son's career.
