Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra believes that selectors can think about adding Shardul Thakur to India’s 15-member T20 World Cup 2021 squad considering his batting skills and exceptional form with the ball in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Notably, Shardul is part of a team but as a reserve.
The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur has been in outstanding form in the second phase of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. He has managed to pick the wickets in each and every match he has played in IPL 2021 UAE leg. Overall he has bagged 15 wickets from 13 matches at an average of 28.33.
I Feel Shardul Thakur Is Ahead Of Deepak Chahar In This Race – Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra uploaded a new video on his YouTube channel in which he talked about Hardik Pandya being not able to bowl heading into the T20 World Cup 2021. He asserted:
“Hardik Pandya hasn’t bowled yet. If he doesn’t bowl or bowl very limitedly then your planning of three fast-bowlers and Hardik Pandya as a seam option will have to change. You’ll have to pick another fast bowler.”
The cricketer-turned-commentator feels that Shardul is ahead of his Chennai Super Kings (CSK) mate Deepak Chahar in the T20 World Cup race.
“I feel Shardul Thakur is ahead of Deepak Chahar in this race. The selectors might think about Shardul Thakur because he can bat and his form with the ball has been absolutely sensational. Before the start of the season, I said Deepak Chahar had to be the guy but now Shardul Thakur has bowled much better.”
Meanwhile, Chopra reckons that if India wants to add a pacer they would have to replace him with a spinner in the team. Notably, India’s has picked as many as five spinners in the team including Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Rahul Chahar, Varun Chakravarthy and Axar Patel. He said:
“One spinner will have to miss out because how else will you fit into another fast bowler in the 15? Who will go out? It’s going to be a tough one, really, really tough one.”
