For their contributions to cricket and the community, Meg Lanning and the late Shane Warne have been named to the Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2022.

Warne, who died of a heart attack in Thailand in March this year, was honored for his cricket accomplishments, including finishing as the most prolific legspinner in international cricket, as well as his contributions outside of the game.

Over the course of a 15-year Test career, Shane Warne amassed 708 wickets, making him one of Australia’s best bowlers. He was selected one of Wisden’s Cricketers of the Century in 2000 and was inducted into the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame in 2012.

His charity and conservation work were as impressive; he launched the Shane Warne Foundation in 2004 and was a supporter and philanthropist for a number of other organizations, including My Room Children’s Cancer Charity and the Elton John Aids Foundation.

“The late Shane Warne was honored Officer (AO) of the General Division for distinguished service to cricket as a player, role model, and commentator, to the community through charitable initiatives, and for philanthropic contributions,” said a statement from CA.
