Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra broke silence on the news that has been circulating over social media over his criticism of Shubman Gill for his performance during the Zimbabwe T20I series. He said that he didn't give any statement and is away from the game.

India batter Shubman Gill, who was given the captaincy of the team during the T20I series against the Zimbabwe National Cricket Team, caught the attention of many. This is because some of the decisions that he took during the series as a leader came under the scanner.

Shubman Gill, who opened the innings, didn't let Abhishek Sharma take the role when Yashasvi Jaiswal was back in the team. The T20 World Cup winner missed the first two games and was back for the third game and walked straight into the playing XI.

Abhishek Sharma in Yashasvi Jaiswal's absence opened the innings and slammed a brutal ton in his second game. With him hitting a brutal century, it was expected that he would be given the same role in the third game and Shubman Gill might bat at No.3. But it wasn't the case as he was a young left-hander was demoted to No.3, which didn't go well with him as he failed to score big.

On the other hand, Shubman Gill was also criticized when he didn't let Yashasvi Jaiswal complete his century in the 4th game. The left-hander was about to slam his ton but the skipper the other hand played attacking cricket and scored runs quickly as his opening partner was left unbeaten at 93 runs

After Shubman Gill's performance as leader, there was a news that circulated on social. The news stated that Aakash Chopra had criticized the way the captain led the side and said that Gill gave vibes of Babar Azam, who plays for himself. It stated:

"Abhishek Sharma scored 100 off 47 balls and then was never allowed to open the innings again by insecure Shubman Gill. Parag got rested, pacers got rested, Rutu got rested, and Samson and Rinku did not get to bat. But Gill wants to open in each 5 innings vs Zimbabwe, Babar vibes."

Aakash Chopra slams fake news

However, Aakash Chopra now came up with a thrashing reply to the fake news that was being circulated. He said that he didn't even watch the series as he was on vacation. Taking to his Instagram account, he explained:

"It is said that lies don't have feet. But nowadays, there are a lot of shares. I didn't give this statement. I didn't say this. I didn't watch this series. I am taking a vacation. That's why."

Coming to the series between India and Zimbabwe, Shubman Gill-led side emerged victorious by the margin of 4-1. They didn't have a great start to the tour as they lost the first match of the series by 13 runs but after that made a strong comeback. They then went on to display four dominating performances.

This was the first series win for Shubman Gill as the captain of the India National Cricket Team. He also ended the series as the leading run-getter as he scored 170 runs in 5 games at an average of 42.
