As Shubman Gill continues to face intense scrutiny over his suitability for a future captaincy role with the Indian cricketer, former Punjab Kings (PBKS) all-rounder Shivam Sharma shared his thoughts on the much-debatable and discussed matter within Indian cricket.

Ahead of the Sri Lanka tour, Shubman Gill was appointed as the vice-captain of the Indian cricket team in white-ball cricket. He also led India to a 4-1 T20I series win in Zimbabwe. However, his first assignment as IPL captain didn’t prove fruitful, finishing at the eighth spot in the IPL 2024 points table.

Fans and experts have been questioning whether the 24-year-old opener Shubman Gill is still the right choice to lead the Indian team in the years to come or if the reins should be handed over to someone else, like Shreyas Iyer. Well, Shivam Sharma, the Delhi cricketer, has weighed in on the matter.

The seasoned all-rounder sparked a fresh wave of speculation and debate. When asked about his thoughts on Shubman Gill's future as captain, Shivam Sharma remained diplomatic, suggesting that the decision should ultimately rest with the experts who can better assess the situation.

To which the cricketer played a diplomatic game by saying, “I guess your first question will be better answered by the experts.” He mentioned Aaj Tak and Jagran News reporters in his post.

The former PBKS all-rounder Shivam Sharma was also asked about his fab four bowlers, and he picked two Indians, an England legend, and one Australian star. Shivam Sharma named India’s pace master Jasprit Bumrah, senior off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, former England pacer James Anderson, and Australian spinner Nathan Lyon as his fab four bowlers.

Indian pacer Bumrah is known for his death-over prowess and unmatched accuracy, while Anderson, England’s former swing bowler excelled with his mastery. He retired from international cricket last month.

Bumrah, Anderson, Ashwin and Lyon all are modern era legends

Lyon, Australia's premier off-spinner, is known for his ability to turn matches on his own, while Ashwin, India’s spin wizard, is a key player with his versatile spin attacks. Recently, Bumrah played a key role in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 triumph in the T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies.

However, Ashwin was not part of India’s 2024 T20 World Cup-winning team, but he is likely to return to action in the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh at home. On the other hand, Anderson finished his Test career with 704 wickets and is one of the best bowlers the game has ever seen.

He played his last game for England at Lord’s against the West Indies last month. He is the third-highest all-time wicket-taker in Test cricket after Muttiah Muralitharan (800) and Shane Warne (708). Lyon has also established himself as the match-winner.
