Former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq has suggested four names to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for the role of the new chief selector. Misbah-ul-Haq was recently appointed as an advisor to Pakistan Cricket Board.

Although Misbah-ul-Haq was offered a full-time role as an advisor, he did not accept the position due to his prior commitments. Hence, Misbah has taken up the responsibility with no remuneration.

Misbah-ul-Haq Shortlists Four Candidates For New Chief Selector

According to reports by Cricket Pakistan, Misbah-ul-Haq has shortlisted four candidates for the role of chief selector for the Pakistan national cricket team. They are Mushtaq Ahmed, Mohammad Wasim, Inzamam-ul-Haq, and Azhar Ali. All of them are former Pakistan cricketers.

The appointment of a new chief selector is a crucial decision for Pakistan Cricket. After the appointment of a new chief selector, the teams for the forthcoming Asia Cup 2023 and ICC World Cup 2023 can be finalized.

All Four Shortlisted Candidates Played For Pakistan National Team

Mushtaq Ahmed is a former Pakistan cricketer who played for the national team from 1989 to 2003. The 53-year-old played 52 Tests and 144 ODIs for Pakistan. The former leg spinner scalped 185 wickets in Tests and 161 wickets in ODIs.

The 45-year-old Mohammad Wasim played 18 Tests and 25 ODIs for Pakistan between 1996 to 2000. He scored 783 runs in the red-ball format and 543 runs in ODIs. He also hit 2 tons in 5 fifties in both formats.

The 38-year-old Azhar Ali is not a forgotten name in Pakistan cricket. He last played a Test match in December 2022, after making his debut in 2010. Over 12 years. the right-handed batsman represented Pakistan in 97 Tests and 53 ODIs. He scored 7000 plus runs in Tests and 1800 plus runs in ODIs.

Inzamam-ul-Haq. the most popular name on the list, is a former Pakistan captain. He played 120 Tests and 378 ODIs, smacking 8830 and 11,739 runs respectively. He is one of the greatest batsmen to ever play for Pakistan.

Pakistan are currently on a tour to Sri Lanka. The Pakistan tour of Sri Lanka 2023 comprises two Tests. Pakistan lead the series 1-0. The 2nd Test match is underway at Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo.
