Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batter Aiden Markram lauded his teammate Abhishek Sharma for his destructive performances. Aiden Markram stated that Abhishek Sharma would get an India cap soon, considering his form in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

Abhishek Sharma formed an explosive opening pair with Australian batter Travis Head in the IPL 2024. Abhishek has provided explosive starts along with Head throughout the tournament. The duo recently chased a 160-run target inside 10 overs without losing a wicket.

Abhishek Sharma has scored 401 runs in 12 matches with an average of 36.45 and a strike rate of 205.64. He's the second-highest run-scorer for the team, behind Travis Head, who has amassed 533 runs in 11 matches at an average of 53.30 and a strike rate of 201.89.

Abhishek Sharma Has Made Massive Strides - Aiden Markram

In a video shared by PTI on X (formerly Twitter), Aiden Markram highlighted Abhishek Sharma's remarkable progress this season. Markram expressed optimism about his potential to represent India in the future, emphasizing his readiness for higher levels of cricket.

"Abhi (Abhishek Sharma) has made massive strides this season. He was showing some really positive signs in the previous seasons and what he's achieved so far this season puts him in good stead for hopefully representing India one day," Markram said.

"He's got a very calm and level head on his shoulders and he'll take everything in his stride. But my fingers are certainly crossed for him to go to higher honours," he added.

After the T20 World Cup, the Indian national cricket team will tour Zimbabwe for a five-match T20I series. Abhishek Sharma might fill in for skipper Rohit Sharma at the top if selected. The selectors may opt for a youthful squad for the Zimbabwe tour in July.

Aiden Markram To Be Recalled For Upcoming IPL 2024 Match?

Aiden Markram remained on the bench in the last three matches of the ongoing tournament. The former SRH captain has scored 199 runs in nine innings at an average of 28.43 and a strike rate of 130.92. His highest score was 50 against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Marco Jansen and Vijayakanth Viyaskanth didn't deliver standout performances. Viyaskanth showed promise by conceding only 27 runs in four overs despite not taking wickets. Viyaskanth is likely to secure his place in the team for the next match, and Markram's chances are minimal.

Sunrisers Hyderabad will face Gujarat Titans in Match 66 of the IPL 2024 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Thursday, May 16. A win would likely make them the third team to qualify for the playoffs, following the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR).
