Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag urged Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) spinner Amit Mishra to work on his fitness and come back fitter in the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He said that a leg-spinner can make a great transformation and extend his career.
Lucknow Super Giants spinner Amit Mishra has made a brilliant comeback in the ongoing IPL 2023. The veteran spinner has bowled exceptionally well and has done quite well on the opportunities that he has got so far in the league.

But what has been concerning is his fitness, as he become a tad fat and is struggling to run in the field and even stop the ball while fielding. It is because of this reason, LSG has been using him as an impact sub and after his quote of overs, they are substituting him.

Virender Sehwag pointed out that Amit Mishra’s talent didn’t go away but he’s getting old and therefore he needs to work more hard on his fitness.
Speaking to Cricbuzz, he said: “His (Amit Mishra’s) talent didn’t go anywhere. As age grows, you go slower. A batter retires because he had to field for 20 overs, and keep himself fit. If you hand Sunny bhai (Sunil Gavaskar) a bat even today, he can hit some great shots. But running between the wickets, fielding, and recovery… that won’t happen.”

Virender Sehwag further went on to cite the example of MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan. He said that they have extended their careers by working hard on their fitness and Amit Mishra also needs to do that.
He elaborated: “I always say to cricketers, extend your career as much as possible. Mishra ji has one year; he can make a great transformation and extend his career. Dhoni has done it, Kohli and Rohit are doing that as well, even Dhawan.
They’re all doing it so they can extend their career by a year or two. And they all have good fitness. If Mishraji is listening, play next year as well, put on the hard yards. If you can’t, contact me, I’ll make sure you do.”
Amit Mishra is currently playing for LSG against SRH. The leg-spinner bowled his full quota of 4 overs and conceded 40 runs, picking up the wicket of Anmolpreet Singh.
