Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer has suggested the Mumbai Indians team management to rest Jasprit Bumrah after their playoff qualification chances were dented last night.

The Kolkata Knight Riders registered their first victory against Mumbai in Mumbai after 12 long years in the cash-laden Indian Premier League. Jasprit Bumrah featured in the match as Hardik Pandya's side failed to capitalize on their positive start and eventually lost the tie in a shambolic manner by 24 runs.

Why Wasim Jaffer want Jasprit Bumrah to rest?

Concerning India's chances at the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Wasim Jaffer suggested MI management give some rest to Jasprit Bumrah. Jaffer's thoughts aggravated specifically after the Kolkata Knight Riders blew away the mere chances that Mumbai had to reach the play-off spots for the second season in a row.

The 5-time champions' 24-run loss last night against KKR was their 8th defeat of the season from 11 games in which they have won just 3 matches. All 3 of Mumbai's wins have come against weaker oppositions like the Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings, and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Despite having big match players like Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Tim David, and Hardik Pandya himself, Mumbai failed to show up against the big opposition. The team is, in fact, full of match winners and reputed players but as Irfan Pathan had put it, the team was not managed well.

MI wasn't managed well by Pandya on the field and Mark Boucher did a very poor job as the head coach. The South Africans failed to keep the team together and severely failed to keep a good environment in the dressing room.

With just 3 league games remaining in the season and Mumbai's play-off hopes crashed the 5-time champs will just play for pride as there's nothing much left. With that being said, it will be a good thing for the team management to rest Jasprit Bumrah, who will be India's frontline pacer at the T20 World Cup 2024 just a month later.

Not just Jasprit Bumrah but the likes of Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav might also get some resting time to not get burned out before the World Cup.

Wasim Jaffer claimed that if Mumbai Indians lose their next match, then they must be resting Jasprit Bumrah as it will be good for the Indian team. "If after one match, if it is confirmed that they can't proceed to the playoffs, resting Bumrah will actually be better in India." - Wasim Jaffer said via ESPNcricinfo.

Jasprit Bumrah's performance in IPL 2024

Despite Mumbai's poor performance in IPL 2024, Jasprit Bumrah has experienced a successful Indian Premier League 2024 campaign. He currently tops the wicket-taking chart with 17 wickets from 11 matches and he is 2 wickets ahead of second-placed T. Natarajan of the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Jasprit Bumrah's economy rate has also been very good as he has conceded 6.25 runs from 263 balls that he has bowled in IPL 2024. He is averaging 16.12 and has conceded only 274 runs in IPL 2024. If he performs similarly for the Indian team at the T20 World Cup, then the trophy might come back to the country which won it in its inaugural edition.
