South Africa defeated India in the 2nd T20I match by five wickets via the DLS Method. The match was played at St. George Park in Gqebehra. While there were several stunning performances, Tabraiz Shamsi’s ‘shoe-call’ celebration drew the attention of fans across the cricketing world. The Proteas left-arm chinaman dismissed Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav and brought up his traditional ‘shoe call’ celebration.

India was put into bat first in the second T20I and the visitors got off to a terrible start with both the openers, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill being dismissed for ducks. With India reduced to 6-2 in 2 overs, Suryakumar Yadav stepped up to steady India’s ship and joined hands with left-hander Tilak Verma, who scored a quickfire 29 off 20 balls.

Despite early setbacks, Suryakumar Yadav played a brilliant innings of 56 runs in 36 balls and stitched a 70-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Rinku Singh. Rinku also scored his maiden T20I half-century. The No. 1 T20I batter was eventually dismissed in the 15th over. Tabraiz Shamsi was elated with Surya’s dismissal and revealed the reason behind his ‘shoe-call’ celebration.

“I packed that celebration away, but the kids keep asking me to bring it about, so I cannot disappoint them. To be able to deliver under pressure against India was pleasing,” Shamsi revealed. Tabraiz Shamsi also lauded Suryakumar Yadav’s knock and Aiden Markram for his leadership and tactical changes on the field.

“Suryakumar Yadav is a wonderful player and he has shown that again today. Aiden was brilliant with his changes,” said Shamsi. Tabraiz Shamsi gave only 18 runs in his four overs and picked the very important wicket of the Indian captain. However, Rinku Singh stayed at the crease and guided his team to 180/7 with a flamboyant knock of 68 runs in 39 balls.

South Africa was given a revised target of 152 in 15 overs according to the DLS method after the match was paused due to the rain. The Proteas chased the target with seven balls and five wickets to spare and eventually Tabraiz Shamsi was awarded the Player Of The Match for his economical spell of 1/18 in four overs.

The ‘shoe call’ celebration that Shamsi brought out after dismissing Suryakumar Yadav has been his trademark celebration. He has picked out that celebration quite a few times in international cricket and T20 leagues. India will face South Africa in the third T20I at Johannesburg on December 14.
