Bangladesh fast bowler Taskin Ahmed has blamed the team's wicketkeeper Litton Das for his crucial drop in the second T20I against India in Delhi. Litton dropped allrounder Nitish Kumar Reddy when he was on just 5.
The Bangladesh wicketkeeper failed to catch a ball off a short ball from fast bowler Tanzim Hasan Sakib. Nitish made full use of his reprieve and scored 74 off 34 balls. His innings consisted of 4 fours and 7 sixes.
Nitish's innings started steadily but he got going after a no-ball from Mahmudullah. The free hit off the next ball was smashed for a huge six and it got the youngster going. His memorable innings also earned him the Player of the Match award, the first of his international career in just his second match.
Taskin Ahmed blames Litton Das for a dropped catch
While speaking to the reporters in the post-match press conference, Taskin Ahmed pointed out the dropped catch by Litton Das and admitted that it proved costly in the end.
"Catch drop is always costly, especially against an opponent like them who are best in the world. The margin of error is very small and so it was costly," Taskin said.
Nitish Kumar Reddy reached his fifty off just 27 balls and showed why he is regarded so highly. The young allrounder finished with excellent bowling figures as well as he took 2-23 in 4 overs while taking the new ball with Arshdeep Singh.
Taskin Ahmed admits Bangladesh are not used to scoring big runs
During the press conference, Taskin Ahmed also admitted that Bangladesh's inexperience in playing on slow pitches has led to this situation. He hoped for better batting wickets in his own country which will help Bangladeshi batters to chase down big scores consistently.
The 29-year-old also wants Bangladesh's players to be involved in franchise leagues across the world to acclimatize to better pitches in various countries.
"They (India) score 180 to 200 runs regularly. For us, that is 130-40 at home. We don't have that habit (of scoring big runs) and that is the reality. Hopefully, in the coming days, our home conditions will get better and at that point, we can chase big runs and defend as well," Taskin Ahmed noted.
"At the same time, if we can play different franchise leagues we will have better experience. Our cricket will develop when the structure of our domestic cricket is strong," the fast bowler added.
Taskin Ahmed speaks on Bangladesh batters' inexperience
The experienced quick further claimed that Indian batters are more used to playing shots of such quality which makes them so productive. He even admitted that Bangladesh's batters are not used to playing shots like scoop which makes it difficult for them to execute their during the match.
"They (Indian batters) play their shots fluently even when there is a small margin of error. If we try to play shots lying down like them (scoop and lap shots), it would hit our head. This habit that they have grown is due to playing on good wickets from the early stages of their career," Taskin Ahmed reckoned.
India thrashed Bangladesh for the second time in a row
Meanwhile, it was another thorough performance from the young Indian team which demolished Bangladesh for the second T20I in a row. After being put into bat, India were in early trouble at 41-3 before Nitish Kumar Reddy and Rinku Singh joined hands.
Reddy smashed 74 off 34 balls while Rinku scored 53 off 29 balls. Hardik Pandya and Riyan Parag provided the late impetus as India reached a formidable 221-9 despite losing three wickets in the powerplay.
Chasing a daunting target, Bangladesh's innings never got going as they could score just 135-9 in their 20 overs. Mahmudullah was the highest scorer for them with 41 off 39 balls but there was no other meaningful contribution.
Nitish Kumar Reddy and Varun Chakravarthy picked up two wickets each as India won the match by 86 runs and took a 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
