"Thankful That I Have Got Ricky Ponting Sir's Guidance Last Couple Of Seasons" - Lalit Yadav

Delhi all-rounder Lalit Yadav was basking in the glory of his stunning knock of 177 against Tamil Nadu on Day 2 of the Ranji Trophy 2021-22 season. He built partnerships with the tailenders, 48 for the 8th wicket with Simarjeet Singh, 92 for the 9th wicket with Vikas Mishra, and 59 for the 10th with Kuldeep Yadav.

On the back of his effort, Delhi reached 452 before being bowled out. Speaking about the major improvement in his batsmanship, Yadav credited Delhi Capitals (DC) head coach and former Australian batting legend, Ricky Ponting. Yadav has been part of the DC set up in the past two IPL seasons.

“If you would have asked me at the start of the day whether I would be close to double hundred batting with Nos 9, 10 and 11. I wouldn’t have believed it.“

“I never felt that I need to nudge and push to reach three figure mark or for that matter any milestone. What are the chances that the tail ender wouldn’t be out? I had to take chances and I did. When they spread the field, I had to back my abilities that I could clear the ground. I am happy that I could execute big shots properly,” Yadav told PTI from Guwahati.

“I am thankful that I have got Ricky sir’s guidance in last couple of seasons. I could feel my game has improved by leaps and bounds,” Yadav added.

As a youngster, every cricketer dreams of playing in the IPL. Once you enter the big leagues, there is no looking back. The only way is up and Yadav believes in the same, constantly trying to improve himself to fit in with the big stars of the IPL.

“Obviously IPL changes your outlook as a cricketer. It’s not about money but you start thinking that if I have reached this level, then there is no looking back. You have to improve and get better every day,” Yadav added.

In response, Tamil Nadu responded with fire as Baba Indrajith and Shahrukh Khan smashed blistering centuries.
