Sourav Ganguly‘s exit from the BCCI President Post has raised a lot of eyebrows. The Former Captain was appointed in 2019 and was expected to bring a change to the Indian Cricket Team. During the Covid-19 phase of 2020, BCCI smoothly conducted the IPL but next year the tournament was held in two phases due to mismanagement.
India won Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21 and squared the England Test Series in 2021-22. The biggest disappointment for Ganguly would be the 2021 T20 World Cup where the team was knocked out in the first round itself.
Arun Dhumal on Sourav Ganguly
Arun Dhumal who is set to be the next IPL Chairman was seen interacting with PTI and was asked about Sourav Ganguly. “There has been no BCCI president who has served for more than three years in independent India. All this media speculation about Dada being told or a few members were against him, they are all baseless,” said Dhumal
“Nobody spoke a word against him. All the Board members were extremely happy and satisfied with the entire team and how BCCI was run in the last three years despite the challenges posed by COVID-19.” he added.
“Dada has had a very distinguished career as an India captain, one of the best ever leaders. As an administrator he took the entire team along and we worked as one team.” he added.
Roger Binny Invaluable Asset
The next president is set to be announced on 18th October. It is assumed that Roger Binny would be elected unopposed. Under Roger Binny, there are chances that the team focuses more on Test Cricket. Roger Binny would be aware of India’s downfall in ICC tournaments .
With the ODI World Cup scheduled next year as well as World Test Championship (WTC), it would be interesting to see how Roger Binny copes with this all. We can expect horses for courses as in the next 4 years, a lot of cricket has been scheduled.
