Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravindra Jadeja announced their T20I retirements after India's second T20 World Cup win. They beat South Africa in the final in Barbados on Saturday to clinch and win their second T20 World Cup title.

It was India's second T20 World Cup title and the first one in 17 years. It was also India's first ICC title in 11 years as the title drought finally came to an end. Before the T20 World Cup, India won their last ICC title under MS Dhoni's leadership which was the ICC Champions Trophy in 2023.

In between, India played semi-finals and finals but did not taste any World Cup or ICC title success. Certain players and the coaching staff admitted that the belief to win an ICC title was dying within the group after multiple failures. The players and the support staff were not able to understand where the mistake was lying.

Meanwhile, India's T20 World Cup win was also a passage cleared up for the next generation of Indian cricketers. The retirement of Rohit, Virat, and Jadeja is being seen as a generational change and the baton is being passed on to the next generation of young cricketers.

Michael Vaughan the former England captain highlighted the retirements of the trio expecting India to boss the next few ICC tournaments. India will host the next T20I World Cup along with Sri Lanka and Vaughan is expecting the Men in Blue to defend the title with the kind of cricketers they have.

Michael Vaughan on Kohli, Rohit, Jadeja

Speaking at the Club Prairie Fire podcast Vaughan said "in T20 cricket Rohit for me is up there with the best. He is a brilliant captain. How he was not the Mumbai Indians captain this year is beyond me," said Vaughan.

"Virat's just incredible. He will carry on playing Test cricket, 50 overs cricket obviously the IPL so we are going to see plenty more of those two."

Vaughan lauded Ravindra Jadeja and rated him among the best all-rounders of T20 cricket. He further said that the trio should have won more white-ball trophies amongst them.

Vaughan further spoke about India's win in the final and the perfect way for the trio to bid goodbye to T20I cricket. "Jadeja is among the best all-rounders to have played T20 cricket. This is the perfect way to go but they should have won more ICC trophies. Rohit won one in 2007 and so it took 17 years for him to win the next ICC title. What a way to go out with a trophy in your hand and you can now sit back play a bit of Test cricket, 50-overs cricket, and the IPL. So three legends of the game, Indian cricket will miss them but they will be replaced. There is plenty of talent in that team," Vaughan concluded saying.

Rohit is currently the leading run-scorer in T20I cricket with 4231 runs in 159 matches. Kohli is the second-highest run-getter with 4188 runs in 125 matches and Babar Azam is third with 4145 runs in 123 matches so far.
