Mohammed Shami, the veteran Indian fast bowler has been out of action since the end of November 2023. India's ODI World Cup final match against Australia was his last international assignment for India.

Shami has been nursing an ankle injury since the end of the ODI World Cup. There were also reports that he had to take injections on his knees during the World Cup. Shami missed the IPL 2024, T20 World Cup and will now miss the upcoming series against Sri Lanka as well.

He recently posted a picture of his training session that took the internet by storm. That was also his way of letting his fans know that he was on his way back into the Indian team.

Recently, in a conversation with Youtuber Shubhankar Mishra, he spoke at length about many things related to Indian cricket and also opened up on his absence from the T20 World Cup.

Before Shami, Amit Mishra appeared on his show and made a few bombshell revelations about Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, and Rohit Sharma. Shami said that he missed the T20 World Cup because he was unfit. He further said that wants to share how he felt about missing the T20 World Cup with his teammates.

“If I’m unfit today and sitting at home, I can only watch the sport as a fan. Those players are my friends and colleagues, I can only let them know what I feel from the outside to help them play better. There isn’t much in our hands. As far as the winners' medal is concerned, I also dream to win the World Cup,” he added.

Shami said that after missing out on the T20 World Cup, he will only come back stronger. He reflected on his performances in the ODI World Cup 2019 and 2023 for India in the chat.

Shami took 14 wickets in just four matches in the 2019 edition including a hat-trick against Afghanistan. In the 2023 edition, he ended up as the highest wicket-taker with 24 wickets and played a massive role in India's unbeaten campaign in the build-up to the final.

“I’ve never run away from situations, nor have I taken an easy way out of things. The more adversities I face, the stronger I become. I have more clarity. You look at 2015, I had the most wickets. In 2019, I was the best performer. Same in 2023. Whenever I will get the opportunity, I will give my 100 percent" Shami added.

In the absence of Shami Jasprit Bumrah led the Indian pace attack in the T20 World Cup taking 15 wickets and ended up as the Player Of The Series. Arshdeep Singh ended with 17 wickets. With both the fast bowlers rested for the Zimbabwe series, India gave chances to Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Kumar, and Tushar Deshpande in the series against Zimbabwe.

With Shami missing in the Sri Laka series, Mohd Siraj, Khaleel Ahmed, and Arshdeep Singh have been included in the T20I side. Meanwhile, all three of them along with Harhit Rana have been named in India's ODI squad.

Felling Better Now, Pain Has Started to Subside: Mohammed Shami

At the end of his conversation with Shubhankar Mishra, Shami also gave an update on his fitness and said that he is looking forward to making a comeback soon.

‘I’m feeling better now. I’m able to train better now. The pain has started to subside. But when you start giving your body load, the stiffness begins to take over. But one gets used to it over time. I’m starting to get back on the track. I hope (the comeback) is soon" Shami concluded saying.
