Former England fast bowler Tim Bresnan has apologized to Azeem Rafiq for bullying him in the Yorkshire dressing room while he has denied any racist comments on him. A lot of Yorkshire cricketers have been involved in the racism allegations, and on Tuesday, Rafiq addressed UK Members of Parliament in the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee (DCMS) to explain his concerns.
The ECB board has been strict on any racist acts, and they have been investigating Azeem Rafiq’s situation as well. Former English cricketer Michael Vaughan was one of the names that Azeem Rafiq had revealed for racist acts, while Gary Ballance has been suspended from being selected for the English team.
Tim Bresnan Accused Of “Frequently Made Racist Comments”
Tim Bresnan was accused by Azeem Rafiq to have made racist comments at Yorkshire frequently, and he added on with the bullying part as well. Bresnan took it to Twitter to apologize for the bullying act that Rafiq faced in the Yorkshire club while he denied any racist comments. Bresnan played 23 tests. 85 ODIs and 34 T20Is for England in his international career.
“For any part, I played in contributing to Azeem Rafiq’s experience of feeling bullied at Yorkshire. I apologise unreservedly,”
“Following the publication of Azeem’s witness statement from the employment tribunal, which I saw for the first time this afternoon, I must though categorically deny his accusation that I ‘frequently made racist comments,’” Tim Bresnan said in a statement on Twitter.
Azeem Rafiq Reveals Nine Cricketers Involved In Yorkshire’s Racism Acts
Azeem Rafiq went on to name nine English star cricketers who were all involved in the club’s racist activity against him. The cricketers were Michael Vaughan, Gary Ballance, Alex Hales, David Lloyd, Matthew Hoggard, Tim Bresnan, Andrew Gale, Martyn Moxon, Joe Root, and these cricketers have all hurt Rafiq’s sentiments in a way directly or indirectly.
