India’s middle-order batsman Manish Pandey might have played his last international game for quite some time after failing three consecutive times against Sri Lanka in the ongoing ODI series. Manish Pandey was one of the cricketers most in focus leading up to the rubber. However, he has done little to justify the repeated opportunities handed to him by the management. Social media users were as disappointed after another failure in the ongoing third ODI.

Manish Pandey needed one significant knock after the other in Sri Lanka to force his way back as a regular fixture in the Indian side. But the right-handed batsman has got starts without converting it to match-winning ones. Though Pandey shared a half-century stand with Shikhar Dhawan in the first ODI, he departed for 26 after playing 40 deliveries.

However, the 31-year old was unfortunate to be run out at the non-striker’s end in the second. Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanka laid a hand as Suryakumar Yadav struck a straight drive, with the ball hitting the stumps, catching Pandey short of his crease. But he played the most uninspiring innings today, facing 19 balls for only 11 runs, departing in the second over after the rain-induced break.

His overall tally in ODIs are 566 runs in 29 games, with a century and two fifties. With the likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, and Sanju Samson impressing in this series and plenty more options available with India, one would have to doubt Manish Pandey’s chances moving forward. The Karnataka-born cricketer is unlikely to find a spot in the subsequent T20I series too.
