Former Indian cricketer Madan Lal has said that the conflict of interest rule that was made by the Lodha Committee should be thrown into the dustbin.

According to the conflict of interest rule of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), former Indian cricketers cannot perform different roles while doing one job in the administration.

Meanwhile, former India head coach Ravi Shastri had said that the conflict of interest is ” absolute nonsense” and it should be thrown into the bin.

It is over the top this conflict of interest. I was not really for it. A masseur with the Indian team cannot work with an IPL team. Conflict of interest is absolute nonsense. It should be thrown into the bin. For me to not be allowed to do commentary if I am India coach, how is that conflict of interest?” Shastri said to Indian Express’ Express E Adda.

Ever since it came out in Lodha report, I was against it. You aren’t giving your cricketers a chance. It’s absolutely nonsense, this conflict of interest clause, should be thrown into the bin,” he added.

Former Indian all-rounder, Madan Lal who represented India in 39 Tests and 67 ODI has supported Ravi Shastri’s statement. Speaking to ANI he said:

“I totally support what Ravi Shastri has said. Two rules that were made by the Lodha Committee, one is the conflict of interest. It should be thrown in the bin. It will bring mediocracy in cricket and those people will be in office who can be easily approached. Former cricketers should be holding the position in the office, as they can maintain the dignity of the game and the board.”

Madan Lal further added that the age of match officials and support staff which was increased by the BCCI from 60 to 65 should be more than 70. He elaborated:

“Secondly, the age factor that was changed from 60 to 65, I would say that the age group should be more than 70. Cricketers are fit and can perform all the duties. We need good people for the board, who are not easily approachable. And our board always had good people, who not only performed well in the game but also made BCCI into a billion-dollar industry.”
