India defeated West Indies in the first Test in Dominica inside three days as they won the Test match by an innings and 141 runs. The Men in Blue came back in an emphatic fashion after their WTC final loss against Australia a month ago at The Oval.
After declaring their first innings on 421/5, India bowled out West Indies for 130 on the third day. Ravichandran Ashwin bagged 12 wickets as he too made a resounding comeback after being snubbed from the WTC final. He picked up seven for 71 in the second innings and completed match figures of 12 / 131. Ravindra Jadeja took 2 for 38 in the second innings and took five wickets in the match.

It was an even more disappointing performance from West Indies in the second innings as they were bundled out for just 130. Skipper Kraigg Brathwaite and Tagernarine Chanderpaul scored seven each. As many as five players in the batting lineup scored in single digits. Alick Athanaze who top-scored with 47 in the first innings, top-scored in the second innings too with 28 in the second innings.

There was still enough time for Ravichandran Ashwin to wreak havoc in the West Indian batting lineup. In the process, he once again reminded the selectors that dropping him from the WTC final was perhaps a mistake.
