Former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Manoj Tiwary has blocked any hopes of Virat Kohli returning to T20 Internationals amidst the growing calls for him to come out of retirement, given his stunning form with the bat for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the ongoing IPL 2025.
As fans kept demanding Virat Kohli’s return to T20I cricket after his excellent performances for RCB in the ongoing IPL 2025, Manoj Tiwary made it clear that the former Indian skipper retired from the format at the perfect time and suggested that the others should learn from him too.
Manoj Tiwary shuts the door on Virat Kohli’s T20I return
Notably, Kohli called time on his T20I career after winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 last year in the USA and the Caribbean. However, the dashing right-hander continues taking the IPL by storm. Many hailed Kohli’s decision to finish his T20I career on a high note.
Without taking any names, Tiwary took a sly dig at the aging players like MS Dhoni, who are still dragging their careers despite struggling on the field. The former Indian batter said that great players must leave at their peak to protect their legacy.
Manoj Tiwary was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz, “No, Virat Kohli has given a good example that there shouldn't be a time when people ask questions like, why? It shouldn't be like that. Why? Till when not? I mean, why are you not retiring? It is happening now; many have been questioning some players’ decision to continue despite poor form.”
Others should learn from Virat Kohli: Manoj Tiwary takes indirect dig at MS Dhoni
He praised Kohli’s decision as a perfect example for others while reminding MS Dhoni and others that overstaying can hurt even the biggest reputations. Notably, Dhoni has been struggling to live up to the expectations as the Chennai Super Kings are on the verge of being eliminated from the ongoing IPL 2025.

Tiwary signed off by saying, “So, it should be an example, and many people should take it as an example. This time comes in the life of all of us cricketers. You should set such an example that when you are at your peak, then you leave cricket. So that the fans don't get disappointed and ask, Why didn't you leave? There was a time.”
Manoj Tiwari - Kohli has set an example,he retired when people asked why, not when. Rn,many players r facing the opposite. There’s a time in every plyr’s career to walk away, & ending on high is smthng many can learn frm him.

Virat Kohli and RCB on fire in the IPL 2025
Notably, Kohli has been in good form with the bat in the ongoing IPL 2025, where he has amassed 392 runs in nine games for the RCB so far with the help of five fifties. The former Indian skipper will be seen in action on April 27 when RCB take on Delhi Capitals in the tournament.
