Former Indian batsman VVS Laxman has picked up two important areas that Team India needs to address before the T20 world cup gets underway in October this year. After the inaugural T20 world cup in 2007, where India lifted the trophy by beating Pakistan in the final, India hasn’t managed to win the title yet.
The last T20 world cup took place five years back in 2016 where West Indies managed to pull a blinder against England in the final and became the only team to win the T20 world cup twice. India will be heading into the Tournament under the leadership of Virat Kohli with the hope of winning their second T20 WorldCup trophy overall after a gap of 14 years.
VVS Laxman Highlights Finisher Role
VVS Laxman had marked up two areas that India has to address mainly before the T20 world cup starts and the first one being the finisher role. He told that apart from Hardik Pandya, India doesn’t have a great finisher and needs to find one as soon as possible. He expects India to try Rishabh Pant for the role and doesn’t see any other batsman as a suitable candidate.
“As far as T20 World Cup is concerned, the balance of the squad is very very important. There are two areas where India really require firepower. Number one is the finisher. We depend overly on Hardik Pandya. Apart from Hardik Pandya, I don’t see anyone else who can play that finisher’s role,” said VVS Laxman.
“Yes, there is KL Rahul, he is getting an opportunity but in T20s it is more top of the order. So, will they draft in Rishabh Pant who is a left-hand batsman and can play the big shots and finish off the innings well with Hardik Pandya,” added the 46-year-old.
India Needs A Death Bowler Along With Bumrah Feels Laxman
VVS Laxman opined that Team India needs a death bowler along with Jasprit Bumrah and brought out the options that are available now namely T Natrajan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar for the T20 world cup. Bhuvneshwar has been out of the Indian side for a long time now due to his injury and he needs to get back in line.
“And in the bowling department, who along with Bumrah can bowl those death overs. We have got options in Natarajan or Bhuvneshwar Kumar. But that is one area in the bowling department which Virat Kohli requires to address,” concluded the former Indian batsman VVS Laxman
Team India will be fancying their chances for the T20 World Cup with the tournament scheduled to happen in India.
