Watch: All Catches Dropped By Yashasvi Jaiswal Since Australia Tour

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s struggles in the slip cordon continue to hurt the India National Cricket Team. Since the Australia tour, Yashasvi Jaiswal has dropped six catches, and his poor fielding has continued in the ongoing five-match Test series against England.

The biggest victim of these drops has been Jasprit Bumrah. The ace Indian pacer has been robbed of four clear wickets in the recent Test matches against Australia and England due to Jaiswal’s fumbles in the slips. At Headingley, the frustration was visible as Bumrah could simply watch simple chances go down again and again, all thanks to Jaiswal.

Despite Jaiswal’s growing reputation with the bat, the young Indian opener’s repeated failures in the field are raising serious concerns. Every drop has not only denied India crucial breakthroughs but also piled more pressure on the bowlers, especially Bumrah, as the other bowlers failed to make an impact.

Jaiswal shocked many with his fielding efforts on the Australia tour during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. His frustrating efforts raised many eyebrows during the fourth Test, where he missed three easy chances against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

It was an early opportunity for India, but Yashasvi Jaiswal couldn’t grab it. Jasprit Bumrah bowled a full delivery aimed at the pads, and Usman Khawaja clipped it sweetly off the middle of the bat. The ball flew quickly toward the leg gully, where Jaiswal was stationed perfectly.

The Indian opener got down low and managed to get both hands to the ball, but it slipped through his fingers. He was standing very close, which gave him very little time to react, but it was a simple catch, and Bumrah was denied a wicket against Australia at the MCG.

In the same match, Marnus Labuschagne gave a simple chance at gully, but Jaiswal couldn’t hold on. It was a short and wide ball from Akash Deep, and Labuschagne tried to steer it away by opening the face of the bat. The ball went straight to the gully at a comfortable height. But to everyone’s surprise, Jaiswal spilled it, and India missed a big chance.

At the MCG, India missed yet another chance as Yashasvi put down a difficult catch off Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling. Australian captain Pat Cummins pushed the ball in the air towards silly point, and Jaiswal moved quickly to grab it. However, he tried to take the catch and couldn’t stay low. The ball slipped out of the youngster’s hands. It wasn’t an easy catch, but he should have taken it.

Coming to the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy opener between India and England at Headingley, Yashasvi’s frustrating fielding was one of the biggest highlights of the match. At first, Bumrah bowled a good-length delivery outside off, tempting Ben Duckett to push at it.

The ball caught the thick outside edge and flew toward Yashasvi at the gully. He dived full length to his right and got his hand to it, but couldn’t hold on. The ball slipped out of Jaiswal’s grasp, and it proved costly as it raced away to the boundary, adding to Bumrah and India’s frustration.

Well, it was just starting. Bumrah created another golden chance, but Yashasvi dropped it at third slip. Ollie Pope tried to guide a short ball outside off but only managed an edge. The left-handed batter dived to his right and got both hands on it, but the ball slipped through his wrists.

It wasn’t a tough chance, and Bumrah looked frustrated with his hands on his head. Unfortunately, Bumrah was robbed of one more wicket as Jaiswal dropped another one at gully, and this time gave Harry Brook a lifeline.

It was a short-of-length delivery outside off, and Brook poked at it without control. The ledge flew at a comfortable height, but Jaiswal couldn’t hold on. Bumrah covered his face in frustration as the slip cordon stood stunned at Headingley.
