Indian players in Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja picked their favourite bowled dismissal from Day 1 of the ongoing first Test against England. The game between the two teams is underway at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

India were asked to bowl first and they had a sensational outing with the ball. Barring Mohammed Siraj, every other bowler chipped in with wickets and helped the team bundled out the opposition for 246 runs inside three sessions.

Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja picked three wickets apiece while Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah picked two wickets each. They bowled impeccable lines and troubled the batters big time with timely blows.

There were as many as four bowled dismissals by four bowlers each. Axar Patel castled Jonny Bairstow, Ravindra Jadeja removed the stumps of Tom Hartley, Ravichandran Ashwin sent Mark Wood packing and Jasprit Bumrah shattered the stumps of Ben Stokes.

After the Day’s play, all the bowlers were asked about their favorite their bowled dismissal. Ravichandran Ashwin picked Axar Patel’s dismissal to Jonny Bairstow as best, saying that:

“It was a fantastic delivery. He got that weird angle coming from the wide arc. Batters are always looking to protect their pads. Jonny came across a little bit, it straightened enough to hit the top of off. Hitting the top of off was a dream for any bowler.”

Ravindra Jadeja also picked Axar Patel’s delivery as best, saying that it changed the momentum. Jasprit Bumrah was also on the same page and said that “it was a peach of a delivery and it was an important wicket at that time because they were stitching a partnership.”

Axar Patel, however, picked Jasprit Bumrah’s dismissal to Ben Stokes as best. He pointed out how the pacer moved the ball and set him up perfectly with the slower balls.

Was hoping that one delivery would turn the other away – Axar Patel on his ball against Jonny Bairstow

Axar Patel’s delivery to Jonny Bairstow was a peach and it was a dream delivery for the spinner. It was a full ball that drifted in after pitching at the middle stump. The batter tried to defend the ball but didn’t root for the spin as the ball turned away to hit the top of the off stump.

Axar Patel talked about the delivery and said that he was hoping to see the ball turn because the batter had kept LBW out of play by playing at the fourth stump. Speaking to reporters, he explained:

“I was thinking of bowling wicket-to-wicket line as much as possible because Bairstow had the fourth stump guard to avoid the LBW. So we were hoping that one delivery turns the other away from the end I was bowling because some odd balls were turning some weren’t and this one turned and you could see that I enjoyed that wicket a lot with my celebrations.”

India bundled out England for 246 runs and then added 119/1 in the response. At stumps on Day 1, they were 127 runs behind. They would be hoping to take the big lead in the first innings.
