The win has taken the Sar to the third position in the points table winning four and losing three games out of the seven played. The Renegades, on the other hand, are languishing down at the eighth position on the points table.
The match was cut down to 14 overs a side due to rain. Melbourne Stars won this toss and opted to bowl first. They restricted the Renegades to a below-par 97 in 14 overs. The Renegades lost wickets at regular intervals with the Stars bowlers striking at regular intervals.
In the chase for the Stars, Thomas Rogers scored an unbeaten 46 off 34 balls to take his team home along with Maxwell who was at his belligerent best. With the Stars requiting 28 off 22 balls, Maxwell took matters into his own hands and struck Azam Zampa, his Australian teammate for three consecutive sixes.

The first of those sixes was hit right over the bowler’s head. Maxwell with his unusual stands used his bottom hand to good effect to send over the boundary. The second six was hit over long-on when Maxwell had his eyes closed at the point of contact with the bat. Despite that, the ball went way over the boundary. The third six was again over the long-on boundary which sailed way above the fielder’s head for the third consecutive six off the over.

Maxwell had s sheepish smile on his face while Zampa had a look of despie. The Stars won the match inside 12.1 overs to register a comfortable victory and push themselves third on the points table. They next play the Sydney Sixers on January 6 and play the Renegades again in the round-robin clash on January 13.

The Stars have won but are yet to win the tournament.
Perth Scorchers have won the title five times. Sydney Sixers thrice and the Melbourne Renegades, Adelaide Strikers, and the Brisbane Heat once each. Previously Glenn Maxwell was retained by the Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of IPL 2024 and Zampa was also retained by the Rajasthan Royals.
“The IPL will probably be the last tournament I ever play, as I will play the IPL until I can’t walk anymore. I was talking about how good the IPL has been to me throughout my career; the people I’ve met, the coaches I have played under, the international players that you get to rub shoulders with, how beneficial to my whole career that tournament has been” Maxwell said.
