The 28-year-old played a pivotal role in England’s 2019 World Cup triumph. He secured 20 wickets in 11 matches at an average of 23.05 in England’s first ODI World Win. Nonetheless, he has struggled with recurring injuries since 2020, impacting his cricketing journey.
In May 2022, Archer encountered a setback when he sustained a stress fracture in his back, sidelining him for the remainder of the year. The young pace bowler missed the opportunity to be part of England’s winning campaign in the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
Archer returned to international cricket in ODIs against South Africa in 2023 and played in the IPL. However, he had to leave the IPL tournament midway due to discomfort in his right elbow. The scans revealed a recurrence of the stress fracture in his right elbow.
Jofra Archer Wanted To Play In the IPL 2024 – Robert Key
In January this year, Robert Key, England’s managing director of men’s cricket, revealed plans to include Jofra Archer in the T20 World Cup 2024. Key mentioned that Archer expressed a desire to participate in the IPL 2024 season.
“Our plan is the T20 World Cup, building him up slowly. I saw him bowl in the Caribbean and it was like he’d never been away. I don’t want to get back to this thing where he plays and then goes down again. He wanted to play in the IPL, but we said not this time. Hopefully, the years he has missed he can add to the end of his career. He is such a talent,” Key said.
England, the reigning champions from 2022, clinched victory against Pakistan in the final of the last edition in Australia. The upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup, scheduled to start on June 1, will be jointly hosted by the United States of America (USA) and the West Indies.
England has been placed in Group B, alongside Australia, Namibia, Scotland, and Oman. England will kick off their campaign against Scotland on June 4. They will take on Australia at Kensington Oval, Barbados, on June 8. They will face Oman on June 13 and Namibia on June 15 at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, Antigua.
