Delhi Capitals (DC) wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul continued his stellar form with the bat in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The right-handed batter became the fastest batter to score 5000 runs during the match between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Ekana Stadium on Tuesday.

KL Rahul played a match-winning knock to guide Delhi Capitals to a victory over the Super Giants. DC chased down a target of 160 in just 17.5 overs. The batter scored an unbeaten 57 runs off 42 balls, including three fours and as many sixes, with a strike rate of 135.71. This was his second half-century of the season.

After the match, Delhi Capitals shared a video on X (formerly known as Twitter) where KL Rahul was presented with a medal to celebrate his milestone of reaching 5000 IPL runs.

Hemang Badani praised Rahul during the presentation, saying, “As someone said, there’s only one number one, KL Rahul. Congratulations on 5000 IPL runs.”

Rahul responded that he would take the award only from Kevin Pietersen, continuing the playful banter between him and the former England cricketer.

LSG’s Middle Order Falters After Strong Start Against Delhi Capitals

The Super Giants suffered a batting collapse after a strong start in their IPL 2025 clash against Delhi Capitals. Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh gave LSG early momentum with a 51-run powerplay and an 87-run stand. Markram top-scored with 52 off 33 before being dismissed by Dushmantha Chameera.

Nicholas Pooran and Abdul Samad fell cheaply, and Marsh departed for 45, leaving LSG at 110/4. Ayush Badoni chipped in with 36 off 21, while David Miller finished unbeaten on 14 off 15. The Rishabh Pant-led team scored 159/6 in 20 overs. Mukesh Kumar starred with the ball for Delhi, picking up four wickets.

KL Rahul Guides Delhi Capitals to Chase with 13 Balls to Spare

Delhi Capitals completed their 160-run chase with eight wickets and 13 balls to spare. Karun Nair departed early for 15 runs, but KL Rahul and Abishek Porel steadied the innings with a crucial 69-run stand. The left-handed batter registered his maiden half-century of the 2025 season, scoring 51 runs off 36 balls.

After Porel's dismissal, Axar Patel partnered with Rahul during the run chase. The duo stitched an unbeaten 56-run stand for the third wicket. Rahul scored 57 runs off 42 balls, while Axar chipped in with 34* off 20. Aiden Markram took two wickets, while the other LSG bowlers struggled to make breakthroughs.

Delhi Capitals retained the second place in the IPL 2025 standings with six victories and 12 points from eight matches. They will next face Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Sunday, April 27, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
