Losing the toss and batting first, West Indies National Cricket Team posted 145/9 on the board and opener Mayers top scored for the side with 39 runs under his belt. Notably, Mayers, who was castled by Pat Cummins, was the only West Indies batter to cross the 30 runs mark in the match.

Speaking after the West Indies innings, Aaron Finch said that the West Indies batters smashed some monstrous sixes in the match. He said:

“Some big sixers out there. It’s a tricky total, the pitch has ridges and it’s up and down. When you bowl it in the right area, it’s tough but still confident. Green has been in good nick, and we are trying out a few things over the next couple of games [on him going down to 4].”
