Sydney Sixers cricketer Lachlan Shaw grabbed everyone's attention with an incredible save near the boundary line in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 match against Adelaide Strikers. Lachlan Shaw saved a certain six at the boundary line, denying Alex Ross a maximum, which left commentators stunned.

Sydney Sixers won the toss and chose to bowl first at the Adelaide Oval on Wednesday, January 15. Matt Short, who scored just 4 runs off 7 balls, was dismissed off Jack Edwards' delivery in the first over. D'Arcy Short scored 10 runs off 9 balls before being bowled by Todd Murphy while attempting a reverse sweep.

Alex Carey scored 18 runs off 13 balls, including three fours, before he was dismissed by Todd Murphy. Jordan Silk completed the catch in the deep to get rid of Carey, leaving Australia at 35/3 in 4.5 overs. Ollie Pope and Alex Ross then steadied the innings with a 97-run partnership off 70 balls for the fourth wicket.

The incident took place on the first ball of the 11th over in the Adelaide Strikers' innings. Lachlan Shaw produced an incredible boundary save. Alex Ross attempted a big sweep to clear the shorter boundary off Jafer Chohan's bowling, but Shaw took a one-handed catch and threw the ball back into play in one motion.

Lachlan fell over the ropes, and no one was in a position to complete the catch. Shaw’s quick thinking and athleticism saved five runs for his team. It looked like the ball would easily clear the boundary ropes, and the commentators were amazed to see such athleticism from the Sydney Sixers fielder.

The Big Bash League official account on social media X (formerly known as Twitter) shared the clip of Shaw's fielding effort with the caption, "Good grief Lachlan Shaw that is an all-time save!"

Amazing to Be Able to Flick That Ball Back and Not Overbalance - Michael Hussey

Michael Vaughan, who was on the commentary panel, praised Shaw's boundary save as "magnificent." Adam Gilchrist highlighted Shaw's proactive thinking and ability to avoid touching the boundary rope while in the air. Michael Hussey noted how Shaw managed to flick the ball back without overbalancing.

"That is magnificent ... that’s five runs in the tank before he’s even batted,” Michael Vaughan said.

“He’s airborne as he gathers the ball but to be still thinking proactively about releasing it, making sure the foot doest touch the rope,” Adam Gilchrist added.

“It was an unbelievable effort .. amazing to be able to flick that ball back and not overbalance,” Michael Hussey said.

“Incredible effort. I thought it must have been Jordan Silk out there but it wasn’t it was Lachie Shaw.”
