Abhishek Porel’s poor wicketkeeping might have certainly left Mitchell Starc furious at him as well as captain Axar Patel after Vijay Shankar got the much-needed lifeline in the ongoing IPL 2025 match between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
On the fifth ball of the third over, Mitchell Starc nearly pulled off a magical breakthrough for the Delhi Capitals, but Axar Patel didn’t trust his bowler and ended up lamenting trusting his young gloveman. Bowling his deadly late inswinger, Mitchell Starc sent down a fiery toe-crusher to Vijay Shankar that swung in wickedly at the last second.
Abhishek Porel’s blunder saves Vijay Shankar
The ball crashed low, and there was a clear sound. But there was confusion about whether it was the sound of the bat or the boot. However, Mitchell Starc and even Jake Fraser-McGurk from deep square leg were convinced that Shankar should make his way back to the pavilion.

But Delhi Capitals’ wicketkeeper Abishek Porel insisted it came off the bat, convincing captain Axar Patel not to go upstairs for DRS. But to their shock, the big screen told a different story. UltraEdge showed a faint bottom edge, but only after the ball hit the boot, which meant Shankar was dead out.
MS Dhoni signals 'Out' as Axar Patel skips DRS off Mitchell Starc’s toe-crusher
After the replays, the commentators were stunned, and Mitchell Starc was seen cracking a wide smile, knowing DC missed a golden chance that could’ve changed the match. Even in the CSK dugout, MS Dhoni mockingly signaled “out” with a cheeky grin, as Vijay Shankar survived. If Axar had reviewed, CSK would’ve been three down at that moment.

Vijay Shankar survives again as Tristan Stubbs spills a sitter at Chepauk
Delhi Capitals slipped another golden chance as Shankar received another lifeline in the 13th over. Facing Kuldeep Yadav, Shankar tried to loft one down the ground but mistimed it badly. The ball floated toward long-on, where Tristan Stubbs charged in and slid to take the catch, but it slipped right out of his hands. Captain Axar Patel could only smile in disbelief.

Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings are in big trouble as they lost five wickets for 74 runs inside 11 overs against Delhi Capitals. However, it seems that Axar's mistake of not taking DRS against Shankar is proving to be costly, as he is still standing tall with MS Dhoni.
Shankar is trying to stabilize CSK’s innings after a quick collapse while Dhoni joined him from the other end as the hosts still need 98 runs from 42 balls to win the match against DC, and that looks like a tricky task for them, as almost half of their team is back in the dugout.
CSK on the verge of facing third loss in the IPL 2025
Well, CSK is far behind the required run rate despite Dhoni batting as Delhi cruises towards their third win of the ongoing IPL 2025. Chennai already has two games, and if they lose this home game, it will severely dent their playoff chances, as they are presently ranked eighth in the points table with two points from three games.
On the other hand, DC will take the top spot if they beat CSK on Saturday.
