Former India National Cricket Team player Ravichandran Ashwin has received one of the biggest honours in the sporting world. The Chennai Super Kings off-spinner received the Padma Shri award from President Droupadi Murmu on Monday (28th April).
Ravichandran Ashwin received the Padma Shri award because of his contributions to the field of sports. The off-spinner was one of the biggest match-winners for the Indian National Cricket Team, particularly in Tests, as he won many games for the team.

Ravichandran Ashwin called time on his international cricket midway through the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, which concluded earlier this year. He ended as one of the greatest players of the team, as he is still the second-highest wicket-taker for India in Tests, ending with 537 scalps in 106 games, leaving him only behind Anil Kumble (619 wickets).

With the bat too, he was no mug, as he slammed over 3000 runs at an average of around 25. The former India National Cricket Team player also slammed 6 Test hundreds and 14 half-centuries, helping his team with the bat in tough situations during his career.
Ravichandran Ashwin was one of the major reasons behind the dominance of the India National Cricket Team in Tests at home from 2013 to 2024. He played a vital role in ensuring that the team didn't lose a single series at home for a decade.
Ravichandran Ashwin retired with 765 wickets across formats. He was a champion bowler for India in the white-ball format and was part of the World Cup-winning squad in 2011. He also played a key role in the team's ICC Champions Trophy 2013 win.
