Watch: Ravichandran Ashwin's children turn down his special daughter's day gift after Chennai Test heroics

Ravichandran Ashwin starred with both bat and ball as India thrashed Bangladesh by 280 runs in the recently concluded first Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.

In the first innings, India were reeling at 144/6 after being asked to bat first. India were firmly on the backfoot at that stage before Ravichandran Ashwin scored a century on the same day.

He and Ravindra Jadeja shared a brilliant 199-run stand for the seventh wicket. The Tamil Nadu star scored 113 runs while Jadeja scored 86 runs as India finished on 376 runs.

In reply, Bangladesh could score only 149 runs in the first innings. In the second innings, centuries from Shubman Gill (119*) and Rishabh Pant (109) helped India declare their second innings on 287/4.

While Ravichandran Ashwin could not take any wickets in the first innings, he made amends in style by taking six wickets in the second innings.

The off-spinner ran through the Bangladesh line-up as the visitors were all out for 234 runs while chasing 515 runs. The India spin spearhead was adjudged the Player of the Match for his all-round show.

What made Ravichandran Ashwin's day even more special was the presence of his family members in the stands as he powered India to yet another win in his hometown. His wife, two daughters, and parents were in the stands on Sunday (September 22).

After the Test, he was interviewed by his wife Prithi Narayanan. His daughters - Akhira and Aadhya were also present during the interview. The interview started with Prithi asking Ashwin about the daughter's day gift.

In reply, the India ace said: "I give them the ball that I picked up the fifer in. Will that do?"

Ashwin's daughters denied the offer immediately, saying no. When Ashwin asked them about the gift they wanted, they were unsure.

"What do you want? Tell me what you want. You don't know, right?" Ashwin said.

Prithi then asked Ashwin about his feelings after doing well on his home ground. In reply, the spinner said: "Actually, I don’t I don’t know how to react, because the first day was something that happened very quickly.

"I didn’t expect to walk in here and get a hundred. I hadn’t batted for a while, so that feels great. Every time I come here, it feels special. I don’t know there is some energy in this ground. I think that gets me going," he added.
