Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting who is a part of the commentary team for the Test series against West Indies predicted Alex Carey’s dismissal in remarkable fashion. The second Test between Australia and West Indies is currently being played at The Gabba in Brisbane.
West Indies finished day 2 on a dominant position leading by 35 runs at stumps. The visitors scored 311 with the bat. Australia then declared their first innings at 289/9 in 53 overs. Usman Khawaja top-scored with 75 on a tricky Gabba wicket with the ball moving a lot.
Steve Smith as an opener failed yet again being dismissed for 6. West Indies then picked up three quick wickets dismissing Labuschagne, Travis Head and Cameron Green for single-digit scores bringing down the Aussies to 24/4. Mitchell Marsh then scored 20 before he too was dismissed and Australia tottered at 54/5.
Alex Carey then scored 65 off 49 balls looking to score off every ball and batting with intent. He hit nine fours and a six in his innings, adding 96 runs with Usman Khawaja who was still going strong.
Seeing how aggressive Carey was batting, Ricky Ponting predicted his dismissal fabulously. Ponting, while commentating for the official broadcaster said that West Indies should bowl to him in good length because he was going after every single ball.

“It looks like (Carey’s) eyes are spinning a bit to me. He’s in overdrive at the moment, wants to hit every ball. I agree with you Bish, just go a bit more defensive, make him play a big shot from a good length ball,” Ponting said.

After Carey was dismissed Australian skipper Pat Cummins played a counter-attacking knock and scored an unbeaten 64 off 73 balls with eight fours and a six. He added an 81-run stand with the southpaw who was finally dismissed on 75. It was Nathan Lyon who then scored 19 off 19 balls and fell with the team score on 289/9.
Australia decided to declare and with under 10 overs of play remaining for the day put West Indies to bat again. Josh Hazlewood dismissed Chanderpaul to give Australian an edge at stumps and the team breathed a sigh of relief.
It was a brilliant bowling performance from the Windies bowlers led by the veteran Kemar Roach. He dismissed Steve Smith in the very first over of the Australian innings to give the Windies a great start. His good work was backed up by Alzarri Joseph who picked up 4/81. Shamar Joseph and Kevin Sinclair picked up one each.
West Indies are fighting in the second Test after being humbled in the first Test by Australia by 10 wickets. Australia have started the Test series as the number one team on the WTC points table. India are ranked second followed by South Africa, New Zealand, and Bangladesh as the third, fourth, and fifth teams on the table respectively. Pakistan are placed sixth, West Indies seventh, England eighth, and Sri Lanka last on the points table as of now.
