Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad has spoken for the first time since being ruled out of the remainder of the IPL 2025 season due to an elbow injury. The Chennai Super Kings batter expressed disappointment over his early exit from the tournament, calling the situation “really gutting.”

Ruturaj Gaikwad led the Super Kings in five games in the IPL 2025, and they managed to secure just one victory. He sustained an elbow injury during a match against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) but continued to play through discomfort in the next matches against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and the Delhi Capitals (DC).

A Young Wicketkeeper Leading the Team, Hopefully Things Will Change - Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad has been ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2025 due to an elbow injury. MS Dhoni has returned as the captain of Chennai Super Kings. Gaikwad, who took over the captaincy from Dhoni ahead of the 2024 season, was forced to hand the baton back to Dhoni.

In a video shared by CSK on X (formerly known as Twitter), Gaikwad expressed disappointment over the injury but thanked fans for their support. He referred to Dhoni as a “young wicketkeeper” and hoped the team would improve under his leadership.

"Really gutted to be missing the future part of the IPL due to an unfortunate elbow injury but thank you for your support until now. Yes, we have been struggling for a while, but now that a young wicketkeeper leading the team, hopefully things will change," Ruturaj said.

I Am Going to Be There With the Team - Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad confirmed that he will remain with the Chennai Super Kings squad. Gaikwad said he had hoped to help the team recover from their tough start. However, he accepted the situation as something beyond his control.

"I am going to be there with the team, really support them. Definitely, I would have loved to take the team out of this situation. Some things are just not controllable and as I said, I'm definitely looking forward to supporting the team from the dugout and hopefully, we'll have a great season ahead," Gaikwad added.

Chennai Super Kings Set to Face Kolkata Knight Riders on April 11

Chennai Super Kings started their season with a win in the opening match against Mumbai Indians. However, they suffered four consecutive losses and are ninth on the points table with just two points and a net run rate of -0.889.

MS Dhoni, who last captained CSK during their triumphant 2023 campaign, is back at the helm following Gaikwad’s injury. He has led the franchise to five IPL titles. Dhoni’s return could be the boost the team needs to revive their faltering campaign.

CSK will next take on the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday, April 11. Fans want Dhoni’s return as captain to turn around their form and revive the team’s IPL 2025 campaign.
