Cameroon women’s team bowler Maeve Douma on Sunday happened to inflict a total of four runouts at the non-striker’s end, also popularly known as Mankad dismissal.
In aT20 match between Cameroon and Uganda in the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa region qualifier, Douma ran out four opposition batters at the non-striker’s end before she attempted to bowl.
Douma, who was making her international debut for Cameroon, also cleaned the stumps of Uganda opener Prosscovia Alako to pick the first wicket of her international career. But the limelight revolved around the four run-outs at the non-striker’s end.

Why it is called the Mankad mode of dismissal?
The mode of dismissal where a batter is outside the non-strikers end before or during the bowler is about to release the delivery is famously known as Mankad as former Indian player Vinoo Mankad in 1948 ran out Australia’s Bill Brown in a similar way and hence from there on it is widely named after the Gujarat player.
The Mankad came into the highlight during IPL 2019 when then Kings XI Punjab (now known as Punjab Kings) skipper Ravichandran Ashwin had dismissed Rajasthan Royals opener, Jos Buttler, in a similar manner and it sparked a huge controversy on social media. Many experts and fans were divided on the opinion, whether it goes with the ‘spirit of the game’ or not.
As per the laws of the game, “if the non-striker is out of his/her ground at any time from the moment the ball comes into play until the instant when the bowler would normally have been expected to release the ball, the non-striker is liable to be run out.”
Cameroon eventually lost the match as they weren’t able to chase the target of 191 as they were bowled out for a paltry score of 35 runs inside 15 overs.
