Former Pakistan chief selector Wahab Riaz was brutally trolled on a local TV show in his own country. Wahab was invited as a guest on a TV show hosted by renowned host on Pakistani TV, Tabish Hashmi.

Wahab Riaz was involved in a segment in which he had to say just 'Yes' or 'No' to a question asked by the host. Tabish asked if this was the worst Pakistan team in the history of the game. Tabish also reminded that the current Pakistan team has lost to teams like Bangladesh and the USA recently.

After giving it a thought, Wahab Riaz replied, "Yes" and accepted that it was the worst Pakistan team ever to have played cricket. In a stunning remark, Tabish Hashmi replied back by saying, "Aapne banayi hain. (You made this team)"

Wahab Riaz's tenure as Pakistan's chief selector

Riaz was appointed as Pakistan's chief selector after the team's failure to reach the ODI World Cup semi-finals in 2023. He took over the role from Inzamam-ul-Haq in an attempt to regroup the team and form a solid team for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.

His first assignment was the Test series in Australia, where Pakistan lost every match and were whitewashed 3-0 by the home team. After that series, Pakistan suffered a 1-4 defeat in the T20I series in New Zealand.

Pakistan's performances kept on declining as they suffered badly in all three formats of the game. Before the T20 World Cup 2024, they even lost a T20I to Ireland and then lost a T20I series to England.

The problems kept on increasing as the Men in Green lost to a much lower-ranked USA in the group stages of the T20 World Cup 2024. It was one of the lowest moments in Pakistan's cricket history and one of the biggest upsets in the game.

Pakistan eventually crashed out of the T20 World Cup 2024 in the group stage and failed to qualify for the Super 8 stage. As a result, Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq were removed from the selection panel by the PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi.

After his removal from the role, Riaz shared his views on X (formerly Twitter) saying, "There is a lot I can say but I don't want to be part of the blame games."

Wahab Riaz international career

Riaz is a former left-arm fast bowler who played a handful of international matches for Pakistan. He played 27 Tests and picked up 83 wickets at an average of 34.50. His high pace and the ability to reverse-swing the ball made him a useful bowler in the subcontinent.

Wahab also played 91 ODIs and picked up 120 wickets at an average of 34.30 and an economy rate of 5.70. In 36 T20Is, he picked up 34 wickets at an average of 28.55 and an economy rate of 8.20.
