West Indies’ greatest cricket captain Clive Lloyd wrote an open letter to the current West Indies which inspired them to one of the greatest Test wins in the history of cricket. West Indies managed to make history by pulling off one of the greatest chases and the man who anchored the chase was the debutant Kyle Mayers who stayed not out at 210 to take West Indies over the line.

Bangladesh dominated the first four days of the Test and no one expected West Indies to chase down a mammoth score of 395 which remains the highest chase in Asia. Kyle Mayers went on to break a lot of records and his partnership with another debutant Nkrumah Bonner was the turning factor for the tourists who had all the odds favouring against them.

Clive Lloyd’s Inspirational Letter Having A Huge Impact

Clive Llyod managed to inspire the young West Indians through his letter to put up a fight in Bangladesh and not back down. LLyod had written to the team not to think as a second-string team and to represent themselves and their family through the opportunity. Kraigg Braithwaite also told about the letter motivating the team a lot and gave them something to play for.

“It was very inspirational, “He just let us know that representing West Indies is a lot, and he said don’t go to Bangladesh thinking you are a second-string team. Give your all, put up a fight, and make sure you represent yourself and family. It was a very strong letter,” Mayers said.

“I thought it was very inspirational. It was full of confidence for the guys who were coming on tour. It was nice to see, and it gave you something to go out there and play hard for. Obviously he is a very successful West Indies captain so it was very inspirational to see,” Braithwaite said.

Clive Lloyd Focusing On Positivity

Clive Lloyd had mentioned in his letter about being positive in hard situations in a tough Bangladesh tour. He had written that hardwork will automically lead to success and not to focus on success first. He finally concluded that getting through these obstacles will provide a good picture of a person.

“A positive mental attitude will see you through many tight situations which I’m sure you will encounter during this Tour, “Lastly, success comes before work only in the dictionary. I wish you the best of luck. Please remember most people are judged by the obstacles they overcome,” Clive Lloyd wrote.

Clive Lloyd’s words had brought out the best in the debutants and the performances will surely be enough to keep their names in the squad for future tours.
