Nadeem Omar, the owner of the Quetta Gladiators, opines that every cricket fan would be hoping to see a match between champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Omar’s comments come as a boost to strengthen the cricketing relations of the two nations; India and Pakistan have not played bilateral series since 2013 due to political tension between the two countries. However, they continue to meet in ICC tournaments and the Asia Cup.

Omar’s suggestions of organizing a clash between the two title-winning franchises are based on the recent rumours of India hosting their neighbours for a bilateral T20I series ahead of the T20 World Cup at home.

“Pakistanis are very accommodating and we have never mixed sports and politics. We always get lukewarm response from India. Now I am hearing that the ice is melting, so I hope good sense prevails,” Nadeem Omar said while speaking in an exclusive interview with ‘Cricket Pakistan’.

“The whole world watches a match between India and Pakistan, so the whole world will interested in watching a clash between IPL and PSL winners,” he added.

Meanwhile, the PSL 2021, which was postponed mid-season because of the covid-19 cases amongst players and staff members is planned to resume in June. The IPL 2021 is set to commence on April 9th.

Former Pakistan captain, Shahid Afridi has also aired his views on the cricket relations between the two countries. Afridi believes that politics and cricket should be kept away from each other, and feels that the sport between the two Asian giants should not be just limited to ICC tournaments asking for resumption of the bilateral matches.

“Cricket between Pakistan and India is very important. Sports should be kept away from politics. Relations between the two countries can improve because of cricket,” Shahid Afridi said.
