Glenn Maxwell On Warner-Johnson Controversy
Glenn Maxwell On Warner-Johnson Controversy

Glenn Maxwell reacts to the latest Mitchell Johnson-David Warner controversy that has gripped the Australian cricketing community. Mitchell Johnson has launched a scathing attack on David Warner and chief selector George Bailey for the selection of David Warner in the test series against Pakistan and the fact that David Warner will be getting a farewell match on his home ground at the SCG. George Bailey said about the column written by Johnson, “I’ve been sent little snippets of it – I hope he’s OK”.

However, star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has refused to get involved in the whole saga. He has opined that Australians should rather celebrate their team’s recent success in the World Test Championship and ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

“There’s a lot of chat around it (the Johnson and Warner saga). But I think coming into this first Test, we’ve just got to make sure that as Australians we’re supporting our team and we’re celebrating how successful this team has been over the two years of the World Test Championship cycle. I’m not going to throw my name into some headlines about this,” Maxwell told SEN Radio.

Glenn Maxwell Hails David Warner As A ‘Champion Player’

Even though Glenn Maxwell refrained from commenting on the whole Johnson-Warner saga, he hailed David Warner as a champion player for Australia. Maxwell also said that the selectors were clear about selecting David Warner and that he is excited to see Warner in the first test.

“Davey’s been an absolute champion of Australian cricket for a long period of time and the selectors were pretty clear on what they thought of it (selecting him). I’m looking forward to seeing Davey in that first Test and him making a lot of runs this summer,” he added.

David Warner confirmed earlier that the test series against Pakistan will be his last dance in the longest format. He is expected to play his last test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) which is also his home ground. Warner has made innumerable memories as a test cricketer and he will be duly missed for his services at the top of the order for the Aussies.
