The WI vs SA first T20I will be played in Trinidad on August 24 from 12.30 am IST. The first match kickstarts a three-match T20I series between the two sides.

WI vs SA Team Analysis

West Indies

West Indies lost the Test series and will look to make a comeback in their favored format. Andre Russel has been rested from the series. Jason Holder has been ruled out with an injury.

He missed the T20 World Cup due to injury concerns as well. Despite the absence of the senior players, they have a very compact squad that can challenge the Proteas at home. The Windies whitewashed the Proteas earlier this year at home as well.

South Africa

South Africa played in the final of the T20 World Cup. From that tournament, Quinton de Kock, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Marco Jansen, and Tabraiz Shamsi have been rested.

Quinton de Kock has retired from Test and ODI cricket but his future in T20I cricket is unsure at the moment. The squad has two uncapped players Kwena Maphaka and Jason Smith.

WI vs SA Key Factors

Pitch Conditions

The pitch at the Brian Lara stadium is a slow wicket. 263 is the highest score posted batting first.

However, in the T20 World Cup held recently scores in between 15-160 were challenging for the chasing teams. A similar sort of score can produce a good game between two good sides with a lot of bowling arsenal.

Form and Fitness

Andre Russell has been rested while Holder misses out with an injury. For South Africa, Quinton de Kock, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Marco Jansen, and Tabraiz Shamsi all have been rested from this series who are trying to breed in new players and give them a chance.

Tactical Acumen

Both Aiden Markram and RovMan Powell are experienced captains. The two have been leading their sides for a long time now.

Playing at home, Powell has an understanding of the pitches of the Brian Lara stadium in Trinidad where all three matches will be played. Toss becomes a crucial factor in these three games.
