The young Mumbai batter Yashasvi Jaiswal has been in brilliant form in red-ball cricket and created history by scoring twin centuries for the Rest of India (RoI) team in the ongoing Irani Cup clash against Madhya Pradesh. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who made his Irani Cup debut in Gwalior, scored a double century in the first innings and a century in the second innings.

Yashasvi Jaiswal achieved a remarkable feat on Saturday, becoming the first batter to score a double century and a ton in the same game of the Irani Cup and the 11th player overall to achieve the feat in first-class cricket. The southpaw scored 213 runs in the first innings and went on to score 144 runs in the second innings of the match against Madhya Pradesh.

The 21-year-old Irani became the second batsman in the history of the cup to score more than 300 runs in a match. He scored 357 runs in the match and surpassed Shikhar Dhawan’s 332 runs in the 2012-13 edition to become the highest run-scorer in a single edition.

The Mumbai batter is the 12th Indian player to register a double century and a century in the same match in first-class cricket; Sunil Gavaskar is the only Indian to achieve this in international cricket.

Jaiswal has been in excellent form this season, scoring runs across all formats in domestic competitions. He became the joint-fastest Indian to score 1000 runs in first-class cricket with a double century in the Duleep Trophy in Chennai. Jaiswal equalled Rusi Modi and Amol Muzumdar’s record of 17 innings in first-class cricket.

Yashasvi Jaiswal will next be seen in action in the India Premier League (IPL) 2023 for the Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals (RR). The left-handed batter scored 258 runs in 10 games at a strike rate of 132.99 in the last season. He has scored 547 runs in 23 games so far, including three fifty-scores.
