Indian opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal is on the verge of achieving a significant milestone during the fifth and final Test match against England. Yashasvi Jaiswal is only behind England coach Brendon McCullum and skipper Ben Stokes in a six-hitting record in Test cricket.
Yashasvi Jaiswal has been in outstanding form in the ongoing five-match series against England on home soil. The left-handed batter stands as the leading run-getter in the series, scoring 655 runs in four Tests at an impressive average of 93.57 and a strike rate of 78.63.
The 22-year-old opening batter has recorded two double centuries and half centuries so far in the series. The southpaw became the third Indian batter, after Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli, to score more than 600 runs against the England cricket team in a Test series.
Yashasvi Jaiswal On The Verge Of Brendon McCullum’s Record
Yashasvi Jaiswal has already hit 23 sixes in just two months in 2024. England’s current head coach Brendon McCullum leads the chart for hitting the most sixes in a calendar year in Tests with 33 sixes in 2014. Ben Stokes follows closely behind with 26 sixes in 2022.
Behind Jaiswal are Australia’s Adam Gilchrist (22 sixes in 2005), followed by India’s Virender Sehwag (22 sixes in 2008) and Rishabh Pant (21 sixes in 2022). Jaiswal is likely to increase his six-tally further, with India set to play many more Test matches this calendar year.
In the Rajkot Test against England, Jaiswal equaled Wasim Akram’s record of hitting the most sixes in a Test innings with 12 sixes. The Mumbai batter remained unbeaten on 216 runs before Indian skipper Rohit Sharma declared the team’s innings at a total of 430 runs.
