Yashasvi Jaiswal joins Sachin Tendulkar, Ravi Shastri in elite list after brilliant century vs England
India is currently taking on England in the second Test of the five-match series at Dr Y.S. Rajasekara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. On Day 1, it was a one-man show from Yashasvi Jaiswal as he slammed his second Test century, absolutely decimating the English attack. In the process, he joined the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Ravi Shastri in an elite list.
This Test match is crucial for the Indian team as Rohit Sharma and company would seek their first win of the series after a shocking 28-run defeat in the first test after taking a 190-run lead in the first innings. Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first in this second Test and after the first day’s play, the hosts put up a score of 336/6 with Jaiswal and Ashwin at the crease.
Yashasvi Jaiswal at just 22 years of age, has become the fourth Indian to score Test hundreds at both home and away before turning 23. He joins the elite list of Sachin Tendulkar, Ravi Shastri, and Vinod Kambli. Incidentally, all four batters in this list have represented Mumbai in the domestic circuit. Yashasvi Jaiswal’s first Test century came in Dominica against West Indies which was his debut match and now he has slammed his first century in home conditions against England. Jaiswal also has a T20I hundred which he scored against Nepal in the Asian Games 2023.
Yashasvi Jaiswal also looked in sublime touch in the first Test of the series as well, where he scored 80 runs from 74 balls in the first innings. He has carried his form from the first Test and has played brilliantly to register his second Test century on the first day of the second Test against England. Yashasvi Jaiswal remained unbeaten on 179 off 257 deliveries and his innings comprised 17 boundaries and five sixes with a strike rate nearing 70.
Yashasvi Jaiswal Will Be Eyeing His First Double-Century In Test Cricket
Yashasvi Jaiswal has played brilliantly on the first day and will continue his innings from 179 on Day 2. He will be eyeing his first-ever double-century in Test cricket on the second day and as he is just 21 runs away from the milestone, it is going to be a restless night for the 22-year-old southpaw. He added 40 runs with Rohit Sharma, 49 with Shubman Gill, 90 with Shreyas Iyer, 70 with Rajat Patidar, and 52 with Axar Patel.
India has already faced a defeat in this series as they lost the series-opener in Hyderabad by 28 runs and now they are looking to win this Test to level the series. England spinners took five out of six wickets on Day 1 as one wicket went to James Anderson who bowled brilliantly to dismiss Shubman Gill for 34. It was again a terrible day at the office for Rohit Sharma who departed for just 14.
India is yet to lose a Test series at home since 2012 when they were last defeated by England 2-1 in the four-match series. The hosts have a record of 16 consecutive Test series wins at home since 2012 and they are looking to maintain that streak by beating England in this series.
