Former Pakistan batter Basit Ali has issued a warning to Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener Yashasvi Jaiswal amid his poor form with the bat in IPL 2025. The cricketer-turned-expert accused Jaiswal of losing focus after early success, warning that cricket can be unforgiving if not approached with dedication.
Yashasvi Jaiswal managed to score just six runs from seven balls during Rajasthan Royals’ 58-run defeat against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium on April 9. The left-handed batter was caught in the deep while playing a cut shot off Arshad Khan, leaving the Royals at 10/1 while chasing a target of 218.
Yashasvi Jaiswal Isn't Focusing on Cricket - Basit Ali
In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Basit Ali criticized Yashasvi Jaiswal for appearing complacent after early success. Ali warned that Jaiswal could follow Prithvi Shaw's path if he doesn't refocus on the game. He urged the young player to rediscover his passion.
"His stomach has filled. Jaiswal isn't focusing on cricket. This is my open message: Don't make this mistake, cricket can make you cry a lot. Look at Prithvi Shaw. Love cricket and bring that passion back, it is nowhere to be seen now. You are playing zero this year when compared to last," Ali said on his YouTube channel.
The left-handed opener has scored just 107 runs so far at an average of 21.40 and a strike rate of 127.38. He scored a fifty against Punjab Kings in Mullanpur on April 5. However, he faltered again with a low score in the following match against Gujarat Titans.
I Thought He Was 27 or 28 Years Old - Basit Ali
In the same video, Basit Ali lauded Sai Sudharsan for his love for the game. Ali added that he assumed Sudharsan was much older due to his maturity and presence on the field, but was surprised to learn he’s only 23 or 24.
"When I first saw Sai Sudharsan, I thought he was 27 or 28 years old. But, I saw one of his interviews recently, and found out he is only 23 or 24. There is cricket in his face and eyes, you can see that he loves the game very much. His goal is to be at the top," Basit said.
Yashasvi Jaiswal Parts Ways with Mumbai, Joins Goa in Surprise Domestic Move
Prithvi Shaw was once seen as the next big thing in Indian cricket. He led India to the U-19 World Cup title in 2018. However, his career declined due to fitness issues and off-field controversies. Shaw was eventually dropped from the Mumbai domestic squad and went unsold at the IPL 2025 auction.
Yashasvi Jaiswal recently made headlines by switching his domestic team from Mumbai to Goa. The move was reportedly triggered by a fallout with Ajinkya Rahane. Coming in the middle of the IPL season, the decision has raised eyebrows among fans and experts, especially with the batter out of form.
