Former India cricketer Abhishek Nayar lauded young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal for his batting performances in the ongoing five-match T20I series against Australia. Nayar expressed confidence in Yashasvi Jaiswal’s inclusion in India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2024.
Yashasvi Jaiswal played a remarkable innings in the second T20I against Australia. The left-handed batter scored a rapid 53 runs off 25 balls with the help of nine boundaries and two sixes. He made history by recording the most runs for Team India in the power play of T20Is.

The 21-year-old joined the elite list of Indians – Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul – by scoring a half-century in the powerplay of a T20I match. His quickfire innings set up the platform for India to reach a total of 235 runs. The hosts secured a 44-run victory in Thiruvananthapuram.
Abhishek Nayar predicted Yashasvi Jaiswal to be a frontrunner for a spot in the T20 World Cup team, emphasizing his improved batting skills. Nayar mentioned that the IPL will be a factor in the selection, but Jaiswal’s performance is a significant factor in his favor.
“He (Yashasvi) has been part of the T20 set-up for the last couple of series and has constantly done well for the team. Even in Test cricket, he is someone who is evolving into a future star. So, you expect him to be on the team. It is still a fair distance away, with IPL in between. But the way he is playing now, he will surely be a frontrunner for that spot,” Nayar said.
