"You can’t fight your body" - Jasprit Bumrah breaks silence on his injury in Sydney Test

India's bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah was chosen the Player of the Series for his tremendous performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Bumrah picked up 32 wickets in the series at a staggering average of 13.06 and was easily the highest wicket-taker from both sides.
While most of the Indian players struggled, Bumrah shone with his unerring consistency and proved to be a tough nut to crack for the Aussies. He picked up wickets whenever his team needed and carried the load of an inexperienced bowling attack on his shoulders.
However, Jasprit Bumrah was unfortunate not to bowl in Australia's second innings in the Sydney Test as he suffered back spasms on the second day of the match. His absence clearly cost India as the other bowlers had too much to do despite the pitch offering enough assistance to the seamers.

Jasprit Bumrah breaks silence on his injury
After the end of the match, Jasprit Bumrah opened up on his injury that came at the wrong time and cost India's chances to win the match. Bumrah admitted that it was frustrating to miss out on the most seamer-friendly wicket of the entire series.
"Little frustrating but sometimes you have to respect your body, you can’t fight your body. Disappointing, probably missed out on the spiciest wicket of the series. Felt a bit of discomfort during my second spell in the first innings," Bumrah said at the post-match presentation.
With no Jasprit Bumrah, Indian bowlers were left with a huge task on the final day. The 31-year-old revealed the conversation with the other bowlers in the team and having belief in themselves.
"The chat was about belief, the other bowlers stepped up in the first innings. With a bowler short, the others had to take responsibility. The chat this morning was about the same thing, about having belief and showing character," the fast bowler added.
Indian bowlers tried their best but were left with too much to do without Bumrah. While Akash Deep picked up three wickets initially and brought India into the game, Mohammed Siraj lacked penetration and was inconsistent with his lengths.
Jasprit Bumrah speaks on young Indian players
Jasprit Bumrah further mentioned about the hard-fought series between two brilliant Test teams. He hopes that youngsters like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Akash Deep, and others can learn from their mistakes and come out as better players next time.
"They’ve (youngsters) gained a lot of experience, they’ll go from strength to strength. We’ve shown that we have a lot of talent in our group. Lot of the youngsters are keen, they’re disappointed that we haven’t won but they’ll take learnings from this experience," Bumrah noted.
"It was a great series, congratulations to Australia, they fought really well," he congratulated Australia for a magnificent performance.
Yashasvi Jaiswal emerged as India's highest run-getter of the series and the second-highest run-scorer of the series overall. Jaiswal scored 391 runs at an average of 43.44 with 1 hundred and 2 fifties.
Australia make it to the WTC Final
With this win, Australia regained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the first time in a decade. India won the Test series in their previous two tours of Australia but couldn't make a hat-trick of wins this time.
It was a closely fought series in which India had its moments but just could not capitalize. On the other hand, Australia played like the defending WTC champions and had an answer to every question they were asked.
With this win, Australia have now officially qualified for the World Test Championship Final where they will face South Africa in June 2025 at Lord's, London. This will be Australia's second successive WTC Final after they clinched the title last time.
