ZIM-W vs IRE-W scorecard, 2nd ODI highlights: Ireland fail in chase as match ends in a tie

It was a thriller between Zimbabwe Women and Ireland Women as the second ODI between both teams ended in a tie. Ireland Women were only able to score 202/9 while chasing down their revised target of 203 runs due to rain. Ireland Women currently lead the series by 1-0 with one match to play.
Zimbabwe Women openers Mary Anne Musonda and Chiedza Dhururu gave a tremendous start to their innings and added 92 runs for the first wicket. Musonda was dismissed for 41 runs from 55 balls by Ireland bowler Laura Delany. Musonda hit a total of 5 fours during her stay at the crease. Dhururu was the second Zimbabwean wicket to fall and she departed for 46 runs from 74 balls with 6 fours. She gave her wicket away to Cara Murray.
Zimbabwe Women display yet another flop batting display
Pellagia Mujaji was trying to help her team recover from the back-to-back damage and scored 25 runs from 37 balls. However, she also fell to Ariene Kelly after hitting four fours during her innings. Ashley Ndiraya and Kellis Ndhlovu added 67 runs for the 4th wicket and tried to bring Zimbabwe‘s innings back on track. Ariene Kelly was able to break the partnership between Ndiraya and Ndhlovu and firstly dismissed Ndhlovu for 34 runs from 40 balls, and later Ndiraya was run out for 41 runs from 54 balls.

Soon, after the departure of both the set batters, Zimbabwe Women lost quick wickets and the lower order was not able to add many runs to the team’s total. After the fall of Ashley Ndiraya and Kellis Ndhlovu, Nyasha Gwanzura was dismissed for 8 runs whereas, Loreen Tshuma walked back without troubling the scorers. Precious Marange scored 19 runs from 17 balls but fell to Ariene Kelly. Francisca Chibare was the ninth Zimbabwean wicket to fall and they ended their innings at 227/9.
Ariene Kelly was the star with the ball for Ireland Women and ended the innings with four wickets. Freya Sergent, Cara Murray, and Laura Delany picked up 1 wicket each.
The Irish team put up a power-packed batting performance in the first match and came out to bat with the same intention. The Irish openers, Leah Paul and Gaby Lewis added 84 runs for the first wicket and gave a perfect start to their team. Lewis and Paul, both fell to Kellis Ndhlovu for 34 and 42 runs respectively.
While Ireland Women were inching smoothly towards the target, rain entered the match due to which the play was disturbed. Ireland Women had scored 119/2 after 24.2 overs and they needed 109 runs in 25.2 overs to win the match.
It’s ended in a tie.
Needing one off the final ball Jane Maguire unfortunately gets stumped and the match ends in a tie.

After a short delay due to rain, the play was started yet again, but Ireland Women were set a revised target of 203 runs in 43 overs. Soon after the play resumed, Ireland lost Amy Hunter for 21 runs whereas Orla Prendergast fell after scoring 15 runs from 19 balls. Captain Laura Delany also was not able to do much and gave away her wicket to Loreen Tshuma for 8 runs.
After the fall of captain Laura Delany, Rebecca Stokell and Arlene Kelly scored 30 and 18 runs respectively, and tried to take their team over the line. However, they were removed by Zimbabwean bowlers and brought their team back into the match. In the end, the match ended in a tie and they were able to score 202/9 in 43 overs.
