2019 ICC World Cup: India-Pakistan Game Set to Be Sold Out
The twelfth edition of the 2019 ICC World Cup is almost a year away. But the fever of cricket has already started gripping the fans across the cricketing globe.
The world cricket body International Cricket Council (ICC) recently stated there has been an unprecedented demand for the tickets as the excitement is hitting the shores of England and Wales where the tournament will be held, next year.
The upcoming tournament is well on course to be the world’s biggest cricket carnival ever. England will take on South Africa in the opener on May 30, 2019, at The Oval in London.
In addition, the tournament will last for 45 days with 48 matches to be played. India will start their campaign against the Proteas on June 5.
The format for the 2019 edition will see 10 best teams in the world going head-to-head in a round-robin format. The tournament will culminate with the fifth final at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground on July 14.
And while the craze for the World Cup is reaching new heights, it is safe to say that almost every cricket fan is waiting for the mother of all clash – India and Pakistan.
Moreover, the two arch-rivals only meet in ICC tournaments in recent years due to political tensions prevailing across the borders. And it seems like the fans are not at all in the mood to miss an action.
More than one million people from across the world have applied for tickets so far. And among them, the India-Pakistan clash has received a maximum number of applications.
The fixture between the two Asian arch-rivals has received enough applications to fill the iconic Wembley Stadium twice. On June 16, Old Trafford in Manchester is set to witness a riveting contest. The final is second on the list of most popular matches.
“The response has been fantastic, not only domestically in England and Wales. But from fans around the world, which gives us enormous satisfaction as we work towards making this a truly global celebration of cricket,” ANI quoted ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 Managing Director Steve Elworthy as saying.
“We expected a high demand for tickets. So we are pleased we could reward the players, coaches, umpires, and supporters who make up the Cricket Family via priority access. We look forward to seeing the excitement continue when the Public Ballot opens later this summer,” he added.
Meanwhile, in order to meet the growing demand, the ICC will use ballot system to allocate tickets for 42 out of 48 matches.
So much so, the fans will come to know about their fate next week when Cricket Family Ballot takes place.
The fans will also have an opportunity to buy tickets when the 2019 ICC World Cup Public Ballot opens on August 1.
It will be the first time when the tickets go on general release. But, the management will sell the remaining tickets on a first-come, first-served basis later in 2018.
