Over the years, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been the most significant platform to get enough exposure and get in line for the India national cricket team’s selection radar. With the 2019 World Cup scheduled to begin post-IPL 2019, the selectors have no choice left other than picking the squad on the basis of a current form. Meanwhile, it certainly opened up the chance for three Indian players who could make it to the World Cup squad on their excellent show in the IPL 2019.
Here are they:
3. Ravichandran Ashwin:
The classy off-spinner can get the ticket to England if he performs well in the IPL 2019. The all-rounder has been brilliant in Test format but unfortunately, couldn’t find a place in the shorter versions of the game. In fact, Ravichandran Ashwin was never dropped, as he was given rest for a particular series.
However, the heroics of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav saw him staying away from the white-ball format. Moreover, a fine performance from him in the upcoming IPL will push selectors to consider him, based on the experience. Besides that, Ashwin can also deliver the goods with his willow as well.
2. Ajinkya Rahane:
The right-handed batsman will certainly eye to make things happen in the upcoming IPL edition. Rahane fared pretty poorly in the earlier season, but he would love to show his worth in IPL 2019. However, Rajasthan Royals have retained him.
Meanwhile, Rahane has been brilliant when he got called during the absence of the regular players. However, he got dropped after the regular players coming into their comfort zone.
Well, a good IPL 2019 season will push selectors to give him the berth as the backup batsman for the 2019 World Cup.
1. Suresh Raina:
Perhaps, Suresh Raina is too good of a player to stay outside of the team. The flamboyant batsman will be the cynosure of the eyes during the IPL 2019. Most probably, the selectors would pick him for the mega event if he delivers the goods.
With Kedar Jadhav being the injury-prone player, Suresh Raina is the obvious choice to replace him. Or else, he can be the backup player on the side as well. Besides that, Raina has got the experience of playing in World Cup event and also possesses a fine record in England.
